Serves: 1

Preparation Time: 10 MINS

Cooking Time:      50 MINS.


  • 1 medium pear
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/8 cup of red wine
  • 80ml orange liqueur/drop of orange essence
  • 1 strip orange rind
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/8 cup sugar


  1. Peel the pears leaving stems intact.
  2. Combine the water, wine, liqueur, rind and sugar and vanilla in a sauce pan. Stir, without letting it boil until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the pears, bring to a boil then reduce heat, simmer, covered about 30 minutes until pears are tender.
  4. Remove pears, bring syrup to a boil, reduce heat, simmer, and reduce the syrup by a third.
  5. Pour syrup over pears and chill for 2 hours.
  6. Serve chilled.

Poached Pear is great when served with Vanilla Ice cream and chocolate syrup.
